David Akermanis feat. Marcie - Hoping Tonight (Original Mix) by davidakermanis

I had the pleasure of performing at Digitalscapes, an interactive art exhibit, last Friday night. The exhibit featured of a number of digital art and light installations with every patron getting this cool little light that you attached to one of your finger - it made for some interesting pics :)

Here's a handful of photos courtesy of Samantha Tan and Alex Soloviev:

There's loads of great new stuff in this month's episode. Inside you'll find Spark & Aura from my forthcoming EP on Silk Digital as well as Colorless' remix of Hoping Tonight. His deliciously techy mix stormed the Beatport.com Progressive House Top 100 charts this week and continues to rise.

I hope you enjoy the mix!

In Advance of the release of Mind's Eye on Black Swan Recordings this spring, a good friend of mine put together an anime music video. The tune itself will be out along with tons of remixes sometime around Winter Music Conference 2010. Check it out! :)

I can't believe we're already half-way through January! I have no idea where the time has gone.

I am really happy though to announce the official release of my latest single "Hoping Tonight" featuring Marcie. This project has been in the works since just after WMC 2009 and was originally a remix of a an instrumental by Noferini/Marini with vocals by Sylvia Tosun. This turned out infinitely better and comes complete with amazing remixes from The Flash Brothers, Frankinelli, and Colorless!

Head over to Beatport and grab yourself a copy!

I spent the majority of my winter break holed up in the studio working on a handful of originals and remixes to get a jump on 2010. In the pipe is a new EP that will be out on Silk Digital, Two remixes of tracks by Latvian progressive artist Kaspar Kochker, as well as the release of my single Mind's Eye on Black Swan Recordings (finally!).

Join me and Nick Cenik as we kick-off the new year on Vital Radio. This month's resident mix is a deep/tech house offering to help you get your weekend started on the right note. Hope you enjoy the mix.

Another slammin' night at Libra Lounge. Good times.

What an amazing year it has been.

The highlight of the year for me was most certainly playing with Markus Schulz and Glenn Morrison at AeroBar in Miami for Winter Music Conference 2009. I've also enjoyed producing and gigging with some amazing friends and colleagues who I simply could not have made it though the year without.

This year also marks my first appearance on the Beatport Top 100 charts for my Mojito EP. In 2009 I put out 6 original productions, 4 remixes and appeared on 4 compilation albums. 2010 is already off to a good start with 3 original productions and 1 remix already slated for release.

I'm really excited to be back in the swing of things and mixing Progressive Aggressive on a monthly basis. Here are my top 10 favorite tracks that helped me ignite dancefloors and airwaves over the past year:

So there you have it... These are the tunes that have really stood our for me over the last year. My top pick for 2009 is fitting, I've always been a huge lover of Jaytech. PROFF's remix of his track Delta is absolutely mind-blowing and is a bomb in the club.

Thanks for the great year everyone, have a safe and happy new year!

This month's Progressive Aggressive is dark, deep and gritty. I'm proud to say that this is once again me at my best and right in my element.

If you're in Toronto this boxing day stop by my resident spot, Libra Lounge, 391 King St. West for a live dosage of progressive just like this.

Anyhow the show kicks off with a great tune sent to me by Embliss that will be out in 2010 on Electronic Elements. I hope you enjoy the show.

Tracklisting:
01. Embliss - Beverly Drive (Original Mix)
02. Paul Keeley - Plastic Heroin (Original Mix)

Have you tried VEVO yet?

According to Google's Eric Schmidt it will "revolutionize the music industry by finally allowing it to make money online". Sheryl Crow says it will put money back in the hands of artists. Bono calls it a "new model for the music business".

I'd like to make one thing perfectly clear: Sure, VEVO is indicative of shift for the recording industry, or at least 4 out of the 5 major music labels - but the model isn't new, and it won't put money back in the hands of musicians. VEVO is all about control. Why?

Gatekeeping
The closed nature of VEVO reduces the noise around the big labels' video content. It's tough for the four big major-label conglomerates (Sony, Universal, and EMI) to compete for attention on YouTube and now they won't have to go head-to-head with Maru the cat or other user-generated content.

Advertising
They call it "an MTV for the digital age", and it certainly has it's parallels. You, the user, are forced to watch a short advertisement before every video you watch.

What the labels are hoping to accomplish here is the ability to command higher CPM's for advertisements displayed against their content - nothing more.

In a nutshell...
The big four want to make every penny that is generated against their content. Similar to the complaints that newspapers levy against Google News, they'd like to be the exclusive gateway to their content. And why not? Attention is worth more than copies now right? VEVO is an attempt to pull all this content in to one place so they can sell more ads and make a ton of money.

My question is, what's in it for the user? What about you? Have you tried VEVO yet? Share your thoughts!

Everybody likes free music right?! You know you do...

In advance of my upcoming release on Emotive Sounds featuring everyone's favorite sultry diva, Marcie, we're giving away free copies of the original mix!

What's the catch? No catch... it's as simple as:
1. Click the "share" button below
2. Click publish on the Facebook connect prompt that comes up (you will be prompted to login to Facebook if you aren't already)
3. Free Music! Aw Yea! (If you clicked skip, you're now looking at bacon and have no free tune... where's the love?)

Progressive Aggressive may take you somewhere unexpected this month. As mentioned yesterday on Facebook it's less DJs in Space and more housey-bangbang than usual.

That works out nicely though as I've included a great remix by Frankelli of my upcoming single 'Hoping Tonight' with Marcie. I'm hoping to have samples of all three remixes as well as some freebie action for all of you very soon.

Tracklisting:
01. Ross Couch - Enlightenment (Original Mix)

I had the most amazing time playing here in Toronto last weekend as we celebrated our good friend Frenchie's birthday as well as my own. So many wicked pics here that capture the craziness that was Saturday night, courtesy of Alex Soloviev and Samantha Tan.

I couldn't have asked for a better way and a better bunch of people to have spent my birthday with! Thank you all.

Marcie has put the call out and is crowdsourcing videos for our forthcoming single "Hoping Tonight". Keep your eyes peeled for this one sometime in December along with a bunch of exciting remixes - including one from the Flash Brothers!

More info & some samples of what's to come will be available very soon! if you're interested in making your own video let me know :)
